"Come for the Sustainable Fashion, stay for the connection."
In a fast-paced world, we believe our Whare Kākahu should be a "Slow Fashion" whare. It isn't just about the threads on the racks; it’s about the people inside them. We have created a space that invites you to slow down, take a breath, and check in.
Curated Selection: Every item is inspected, cleaned, and displayed with respect.
For the Whānau: We provide essential clothing for all ages—from warm winter coats and school uniforms to professional attire for job interviews.
The "Circular" Impact: By rehoming quality garments, we keep textiles out of landfills and put them onto the backs of our community.
"Did you know? By choosing pre-loved clothing at Whare Kākahu, you are helping save thousands of liters of water used in new textile production. That’s Sustainable Fashion in action!"
The Mental Reset: "Studies show that 'Slow Shopping'—focusing on quality and connection—reduces stress and increases feelings of community belonging."
The Longevity Loop: "A well-made vintage wool coat can last 50 years. Fast fashion lasts 5 washes. Choose the heritage piece; it’s better for your wallet and your wairua (spirit)."
"Is your donation Whare Kākahu ready?"
If it’s clean, functional, full of life and you would give it to your friend? If we have room, we will take it. Please ask, and drop in during opening hours.
The Weekly Rhythm: A Labor of Love
Our space is a living example of community flexibility. Every week, our dedicated team transforms the church hall into a curated clothing sanctuary.
The Friday Reset: Every weekend, we "pack down" the boutique with care to return the space to the St Peter’s congregation for their Sunday service.
A Shared Home: This constant cycle of setting up and packing down is a labor of love, ensuring that 33 Wise Street remains a hub for both spiritual connection and practical community support.
⛪ Sunday Invitation: St Peter’s remains a place of worship and welcome for everyone. If you enjoy the vibe of the Whare Kākahu during the week, you are warmly invited to join the church service every Sunday at 11:00 AM. Nau mai, haere mai—all are welcome.
